Barýshnikov made his tv debut dancing in 1976, in a PBS program called In Performance Live from Wolf Trap. During Christmas of 1977, CBS brought to tv its famous version of the clasical ballet of Tchaikovski,The Nutcracker; and up to these days, it has remained as the most popular and watched tv version of the ballet. Gelsey Kirkland, Alexander Minz and members of the American Ballet Theatre also appear here. The production was filmed in Canada. After being shown two times by CBS, they signed up with PBS,where it was televised annualy, each Christmas, for many years. It is only one of two unique versions of the Nutcracker nominated for an Emmy Award. Wikipedia.
